Shillong: All Indian Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader George B Lyngdoh has urged the Meghalaya government not to give away the 66 acres of the state's prime property to Assam.

He also expressed his helplessness over the fact that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed between the two chief ministers.

B Lyngdoh also raised a motion in the house over the interstate border settlement and reminded the Chief Minister's statement in the Assembly on Monday and said that his major concern was that Assam will get 1.79 sq km of prime property in Khanapara-Pillangkata while Meghalaya will retain only 0.5 sq km.

Notably, according to him, in Khanapara area, the state is giving away 0.27 sq km of land to Assam which is around 66 acres of prime property.

He also said that the two governments have neither stuck to the five parameters nor the historical background and ethnicity in Khanapara. B Lyngdoh also expressed his doubts whether, the people will this settlement or not.

He further sought information whether the two governments have consulted the traditional heads and institutions before finalizing the agreement, as under the new settlement, several villages falling under the jurisdiction of the Hima and the Syiem will go to Assam.

Both Meghalaya and Assam had signed an MoU on January 29 to resolve the border dispute in six locations, namely Tarabari, Gizang, Hahim, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pillangkata and Ratacherra.
