Meghalaya: Phensedyl Recovered from Tanker Damaged in an Accident

SHILLONG: Three days after the fuel tanker bearing the registration number NL 01 AH 2246 plunged into a deep gorge on National Highway 6 along the Umtyra village in the East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya, a total of 4135 bottles each containing 100 ml Phensedyl were seized from the same.

According to police, the accident took place early on Friday morning. The tanker driver identified as Shakeep Sheik from Maharashtra, was found trapped inside the truck's cabin. He was found to be in a seriously injured condition and was taken to Civil Hospital located in Khliehriat, for further medical attention. Shakeep Sheikh stated to police during an initial investigation that the tanker was filled with diesel and that the vehicle's paperwork was discovered inside the cabin.

According to an inquiry by the police, the Bharat Petroleum Transport Office notified that the vehicle in question had not loaded diesel fuel from their refinery and that no vehicle records were available at their location, which sparked suspicion.

Police reported on Monday that during the tanker's inspection, bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup were found and the metal sheets of the tanker were taken out of the concealed chamber with the aid of gas cutters.

Police have notified that Shiekh is the subject of a case under Khlŭehriat PS Case No. 90(11)2023 u/s 279/337/338/427 IPC R/W Sec. 22(c)/29 NDPS Act.

Another major road accident took place near the city of Dimapur in Nagaland on Friday night. Two people were speculated to have perished in the incident, but no confirmation was received regarding the same. The accident took place at the Burma Camp Section of the National Highway 29 near the Dhansiri Bridge. The time of the accident was said to be around 9 PM on Monday. Spectators at the scene of the accident reported that the truck came out of a feeder road from the Burma Camp side and then tipped over on its side while turning towards town. The truck was reportedly transporting a huge consignment of potatoes when the incident took place.
