Meghalaya Police Arrests Nigerian Man, Naga Woman from Delhi in Fraud Case

SHILLONG: In a major breakthrough, East Garo Hills district Police with the help of Delhi Police apprehended one Nigerian national and Naga woman from Delhi, who was involved in a Cyber Fraud case at Williamnagar Police Station.

The arrested Nigerian man has been identified as Felix. Further, the police were also able to seize 12 mobile phones and 23 ATM cards from them.

"12 mobile devices and 23 nos of ATM cards,12 passbooks of different banks have been recovered from their possession. It is suspected that they may be involved in many other cases in other states, districts as well," said the Meghalaya Police in a tweet.

As per reports, they were arrested in connection with a Rs 2 lakh cyber fraud case, lodged at the Williamnagar police station in East Garo Hills district.

Notably, the accused were produced before the Tis Hazari Court in Delhi for transit remand and will be brought to Meghalaya for further investigation.

Meanwhile, earlier in January this year, the Nigerian High Commission in India has sought the Meghalaya government's intervention to release 12 Nigerian nationals lodged in the State's jails following their arrest for illegally crossing over to India from Bangladesh.

Meghalaya Home (Prisons) Minister Alexander Laloo Hek recently said that a representative deputed by the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi met him and sought the State government's intervention to release the Nigerian nationals lodged in different jails in the mountainous State.

"We have initiated the process. Our political department would send the official communication to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in this regard, following which the MHA will forward the matter to the External Affairs Ministry," said Hek.
