Shillong: Meghalaya Police on Wednesday apprehended a 25-year-old named 'I Love You Talang' for kidnapping and murdering a tourist cab driver in state's Jowai.
As per a police official, Talang's three of his accomplices -Ramesh Dkhar, Tellme Pyrtuh alias Bor and Sampher Ksoo - were also arrested on charges of kidnapping and murdering the cab drivers in the West Jaintia Hills district recently.
During the initial interrogation, Talang allegedly confessed that he along with his three other accomplices had kidnapped and murdered the cab driver identified as Damehipaia Papeng, who went missing on August 10, by slitting his throat.
Talang also guided police to the place where he had dumped the dead body of Papeng near a cattle market in Mukoi Mihmyntdu, near the Jowai Bypass on the NH-06.
Meanwhile, police also suspect that Talang and his gang were involved in another such crime where they murdered another cab driver named Fullmoon Kharsahnoh.
Kharsahnoh's body was found dead in suspicious circumstances in Mynkre, East Jaiñtia Hills, last week.
After the arrest, the police produced them in court and the court eventually sent them to 14 days of police custody.
In another case of murder, Pintu Das, a hotel employee, was stabbed to death with a sharp sickle by unidentified miscreants on Tuesday night at Jakhalabandha while he was sleeping in the verandah of Hotel Vijusmita.
As per sources, he was found lying dead on his bed by another employee of the hotel later at night. Meanwhile, local police along with the magistrate rushed to the spot early on Wednesday morning and sent the body for post-mortem.
Police suspect that he might have been killed by one Shankar Sarkar who worked with the deceased in the same hotel as a dispute had taken place between Shankar and Pintu a couple of hours before the gruesome incident.
