SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) on Friday filed an FIR against television journalist Arnab Goswami for making a “wilful defamatory attack” against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The MPYC in the FIR said that Goswami during a television show made a direct attempt to communalize the incident of mob lynching at Palghar Maharashtra by attaching a Hindu-Muslim angle to it.
“He tried to light this communal fire despite public statements given by both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Maharashtra clarifying that the incident at Palghar had no communal angle to it. On top of it all, he also tried to bring the Christians and even Italy into the mix,” the FIR signed by MPYC president, Richard M Marak, Pangsang RN Sangma and Gamrik K Sangma both secretaries of the frontal organization, stated.
In the FIR lodged with Circle Inspector of Tura Police Station under West Garo Hills district, the MPYC leaders said that the statement made by Goswami during the show can be classified as a hate speech and that it is an attack on the Constitution of India and is an offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and guidelines of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
