SHILLONG: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Pestone Tynsong has been named the state president of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) for the state of Meghalaya. The announcement rewarding the same came on Tuesday.
Meghalaya Chief Miniter and National President of the National People’s Party Conrad K Sangma made this announcement over the social media site X on Tuesday. Pestone Tynsong replaces Dr W R Kharlukhi for the position of the state president. This step comes ahead of the general elections which are scheduled to be organised in the first half of the coming year. Along with the giving of this new responsibility, Pestone Tynsong has been relieved of other positions in the party.
“Prestone Tynsong takes over as President, Meghalaya State Unit of the National People’s Party today from Dr W R Kharlukhi. Dr. W R Kharlukhi has served as President for 16 years and his time with the NPP was even longer as a confidant and friend of our leader, (L) Purno A Sangma. We are thankful to him for his years of dedication and for his indelible contribution to the NPP. Sh. Prestone with his years of experience in state politics will take this responsibility from Dr. Kharlukhi and further NPP’s reach and mission in Meghalaya and the North East. We have immense faith in his leadership and we wish him the best!” mentioned the Meghlaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma over social media site X.
Previously, In a pivotal moment for the state's academic and economic future, Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, officially transferred land for the establishment of the National Law University's permanent campus and the State Judicial Academy. Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee of the Meghalaya High Court received the symbolic key to the future of legal education in the state.
During his address at the momentous event, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma underscored the state government's unwavering commitment to transforming Meghalaya's economy from an extractive model to a regenerative one. He articulated the core principle that a regenerative economy places a significant emphasis on human capital. Accordingly, the state is taking resolute steps to invest in its human resources, recognizing their paramount role in shaping Meghalaya's future. Chief Minister Sangma passionately stressed that India, being a youthful nation, must harness the incredible potential of its youth to contribute positively to the nation's overall growth.
