Meghalaya reports 87 new COVID cases

SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded 87 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of active cases to 270, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War on Tuesday.

Of the 87 new cases, East Khasi Hills district recorded 78 (Armed Force/Paramilitary Forces: seven; civilians: 71); Ri-Bhoi: four (Armed Force/Paramilitary Forces: two; civilians: two); West Jaintia Hills: three; and one each from East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills district.

Of the 78 cases recorded in East Khasi Hills, 48 are returnees.

During the last 24 hours, the State also recorded 10 recovered cases, taking the total recovered cases to 13,966. Of these, seven are from East Khasi Hills and one each from East Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi and West Garo Hills districts.

Of the 4,24,940 persons tested till date, as many as 4,10,553 tests were negative while 14,387 were confirmed cases.

A total of 1, 02, 957 people entered Meghalaya till Tuesday afternoon.

So far 1,56,525 person received the Covishield vaccine and 42,213 have received both doses.

The total number of Healthcare workers who received the first dose is 22,673 while 16,238 received the second dose.

So far 33,540 frontline workers have received the first dose and 21,511 got their second dose of the vaccine.

The total number of general public vaccinated with the first dose is 58,099 out of which 4464 have received their second dose, added Dr War.
