SHILLONG: The Government of Meghalaya has introduced the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 with the purpose of ensuring and enhancing the security of the citizens of the state by making careful and thorough examinations of tenants residing in the state. The implementation of the Act will prevent anti-social elements from gaining shelter in the state and create a control mechanism to check illegal infiltration or illegal migrants who might be coming and residing in different localities. In order to implement the Act, the government, in collaboration with NIC, Meghalaya, launched an online application on September 8, 2022, which will enable citizens (landlords and tenants) to register themselves with prior verification from local authorities.

Therefore, all landlords and tenants who are residing in the seven localities, namely, Nongrim Hills, Pohkseh, Nongrah, Nongmensong, Lapalang, Riat Laban, and Wahdienglieng, which have been selected in the first phase, are to mandatorily register themselves in the app via the URL https://megrssa.nic.in, which is accessible from PCs, laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Landlords and tenants can also register through the mobile app, which can be downloaded from the aforementioned website, stated a press release.
