SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government has announced its plans to set up the state's first ever veterinary college and hospital.

The college will be located in Kyrdemkulai which falls under Ri-Bhoi district while the hospital will be situated in Upper Shillong.

AL Hek, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister of Meghalaya, shared this news. He also informed that the preparation of the Detailed Project Reports (DPR's) by the department for both the projects is underway.

The state government will seek funding from the Union government after the project is finalized.

Hek stated that he has instructed his officers to accelerate the process as he wants the project to be approved before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections commence.

The lack of a veterinary college has been a point of concern in the state of Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the state government was planning to submit a proposal to the Centre for the permission and sanction of a veterinary hospital and college in the state and this was informed by AL Hek on January 29.

The minister told the media that a proposal had been put forward to the state government for a few projects such as a veterinary hospital in Shillong and a veterinary college at Kyrdemkulai in Ri-Bhoi district.

Hek added that a proposal will soon be submitted to the Central government for approval and sanction through the state planning department.

Furthermore, he said that he had a word with the state secretary on January 29 regarding the same and asked him to accelerate the process since the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are approaching rapidly and almost all the Union Ministers will be occupied with the election.
