Meghalaya Students Stuck In Russian Invasion-Hit Ukraine, CM Asks MEA For Help

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that a huge number of students from the state are currently stuck with no help in Ukraine.

The CM had requested the minister of union external affairs S Jaishankar to make sure that all Indian citizen returns back home safely.

Sharing a tweet on Thursday evening CM Sangma said informed about receiving news of Meghalaya students stranded in Ukraine. He prayed for the safety of all and hopes that peace prevails.

Meanwhile, on Friday 25 February, the chief minister informed that the Meghalaya government has created a helpline for all people from the state including students stranded in Ukraine.

The helpline numbers shared by Sanga through a tweet on Friday are- 93660 66565 and 98632 57261.

However, the Indian embassy in Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine has come for the help of Indian nationals in the Russian invasion hit country. The Indian embassy has provided shelter to at least 200 students at a school located near the embassy.

Around 100 students from Assam are also left in between nowhere in Ukraine at the time when Russia is bombing the country. According to reports, the majority of students from Assam stuck in Ukraine are pursuing their medical courses.

The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma also discussed the matter with MEA (minister of external affairs) asking to ensure the security and safety of Assam students amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The CM further informed that the government is also in contact with the students from the state left deserted in Ukraine.

In its concern over citizens, India had arranged flights to bring back Indians home but the planes returned after Ukraine closed the airspace citing certain risks.

On Thursday 24 February Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced its major military operation in Ukraine and just a few minutes after the announcement, Russia invaded Ukraine from different areas across the county.

Meanwhile, as the Ukrainian government has shut down the airspaces the Indian embassy in Kyiv has taken initiative to make alternate arrangements for shifting all Indian citizens. It has further asked the Indian people in Ukraine to stay in locations that are familiar.
