Meghalaya to close shops, impose restrictions on public transport from midnight Mar 20- 21

Meghalaya: As a precautionary measure to prevent coronavirus, Government of Meghalaya has imposed restrictions in movement of public transport and to close all shops, markets and establishments from midnight of 20th March, 2020 to midnight of 21st March, 2020 to enforce the advisories and restrictions for containment of COVID-19.

Meghalaya government has also announced that all tourist places in the state will remain closed until March 31. There is also a possibility that this may extend to April 15, due to novel COVID-19 threat.

Therefore, tourists intending to visit Meghalaya or other parts of the states are requested to re-schedule their plans until further notification.

Meanwhile, SP Claudia Lyngwa of East Khasi Hills has authorized all proprietors of hotels and guest houses in the district to report details of any stay or visit of foreign tourists, especially from COVID-19-affected countries

When Lyngwa was asked if the number of foreigners was high she said that people who entered Shillong within this critical period are just a few of them and those who entered the state in the month of March have left.

Lyngwa also said that tourists from countries, like Mexico, the UK, France, and other countries visit Shillong.

In order to prevent any outbreak of COVID-19, the management of Shnongpdeng Tourist Spot and Kudengrim Tourist Spot have also decided to prohibit the entry of foreign tourists as well as tourists from outside the State until further notice. The Kudengrim Tourism and Environmental Protection Society and the Dorbar Shnong Shnongpdeng took this decision separately in accordance with the direction received from Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry. They informed that only local visitors can visit the tourist spots until further notices.
