Meghalaya to re-open doors for tourists from Dec 21

The Meghalaya government is all set to resume its tourism activities. Tourists from outside the state are allowed to enter from Dec 21. Check the SOPs here

Shillong: One of the favourite tourist destinations of northeast India, Meghalaya is all set to welcome tourists from outside the state from December 21. The state restricted tourists from entering the state since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier on October 16, the state open tourism activities for the local tourists.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma tweeted on Monday, "The #HomeOfClouds looks forward to welcoming you."

The tourism department of Meghalaya Government-issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all the tourists visiting Meghalaya from outside the state.

The SOPs are:

1. It is mandatory for all the tourists to register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate e-invite for the proposed itinerary. The app can be downloaded from:

2. One can also download the e-invite on Meghalaya Tourism website.

3. A valid Photo ID would be required to be uploaded on the Meghalaya Tourism App, also including the other members travelling together.

4. It is compulsory to book at least two-night stay for the first two nights and declaration of the complete itinerary for the e-invite to be generated.

5. If the tourists are staying at a friend or family's place, the complete address and full details of the friend or family should be given.

6. The services of Registered Tour Operators listed on the Meghalaya Tourism website at the link https://www.meghalayatourism.in/plan-your-trip/tour-operators/ and on the Meghalaya Tourism App, can also be used to obtain an e-invite.

7. The e-invite with the QR Code will have to be produced to the officials at the entry points to the state by each tourist along with the Valid Photo IDs.

8. An original copy of the COVID Negative report has to be also produced by the tourist at the Entry Point.

All the tourists entering the state needs to produce a COVID Negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report which will be valid only if they were tested within 72 hours of their arrival at the entry point. However, the RAT Negative Test is not valid for Tourists who are entering the state.
