Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023 Launched by the State Government

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has released its new tourism policy entitled the Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023. The new policy was released by chief minister Conrad Sangma in the presence of the tourism minister of the state Paul Lyndoh on Friday at an event organised in the State Convention Centre. Releasing the document, the ministers said that this new policy will be a game changer for the tourism sector of the state.

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh mention that the new Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023 has been broadly divided into two sections - one is the vision statement's core guiding principles and two is the parts which deal with the thrust areas. He also added that 10 trust areas under the policy which will be guiding the policy for the route trajectory of tourism in Meghalaya have already been identified.

The minister stated that the government will be playing the role of a mentor and leader in terms of the development of the state and requested support from all the stakeholders of the sector. He also added that this policy is very essential at this time as it still encourages the youth of the state to take up tourism in a well-planned manner as the tourism sector of the state is currently booming. The minister also mentioned that the footfall of tourists in the state in the post-Covid era was around 15 lakhs, which includes foreign tourists.

He also asked the youth of the state to take up entrepreneurial endeavours, mentioning that there are only limited opportunities in the government sector, which is not enough to accommodate all the youth of the state and it will be difficult if they could not identify new avenues. He also mentioned that the state is moving towards strengthening the tourism sector and encouraging more youth to take up new endeavours in this field.
