SHILLONG: “Poshan Abhiyaan is a mutli-ministry convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition-free India by 2022,” said East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner M War Nongbri while speaking at the inauguration of the Mei Ram-ew Farmers’ Market and Poshan Mela held at Shillong on Friday.
The Poshan Mela was organized by the district administration, East Khasi Hills District and North East Slow Food & Agrobiodersity Society (NESFAS) in collaboration with the Office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS (Cell), Shillong, as part of the observation of Poshan Maah.
Nongbri said that Poshan Maah is being observed throughout the month with the conduct of various programmes by lines departments with the aim to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and child.
Stating that students should actively participate in extracurricular activities for overall fitness of the body, Nongbri also stressed on the importance of having a balanced diet.
As part of the mela, an exhibition was also held which saw the participation of the Office of the Community Food of Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Shillong, District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, District Medical and Health Office, District Election Office, PHE and District Swacch Bharat Mission, East Khasi Hills, North East Slow Food &Agrobiodersity Society and Self Help Groups from across the district.
Later, the chief guest also gave away the best stall award of the exhibition to the stall of North East Slow Food & Agrobiodersity Society (NESFAS), Shillong.
