SHILLONG: With just over a week left for Meghalaya to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of achieving Statehood, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA Adelbert Nongrum submitted a five-point memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. The KHNAM legislator wants the State Government to revisit the reservation policy regarding appointments to various Government departments and admissions to educational institutions, enhancement of upper age limit in appointment to various posts, creation of a separate 'Meghalaya State cadre' for IAS, IPS and IFS, relocation of the Sweeper's Colony and resolution of the State boundary issues. In the memorandum to Sangma, the legislator, who is part of the ruling alliance, said that the Government need to immediately address and resolve the pending issues of immense public importance, failing which, he will be compelled to boycott the celebration of 50 years of the State attaining Statehood.

"We, the elected representatives of the people in the Government and those in the opposition, have failed the public at large, who have otherwise elected us with full faith, to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of the public and the people of Meghalaya," Nongrum said.
