SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has sought the intervention of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma concerning the proper arrangement and management of wire cables.

The MLA also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on this matter on Saturday.

"The arrangement in and around Shillong city that has become an eyesore to witness the haphazard and random manner at which the cables and wires are being laid by the various telecommunications comprising both government and private sector," Adelbert said.

He said extensions of these wires and cables are made from pole to pole and even along the boundary wall which is devoid of any methodology.

"It has also been found that even the non-serviceable and worn-out wires and cables that require to be discarded are being left unattended. Due to these erratic and irrational setting up of cables and wires it has compromised the urban sky scape and thus it gave the impression that there are no authority to regulate such undertakings. This is best exemplified in areas of Police Bazar, Motphran and other congested residential areas that gave an impression of a shanty and a slum like surrounding. It may also likely to become an issue of public safety in the event of any unforeseen eventuality," he said.
