SHILLONG: MLA Adelbert Nongrum (of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement or KHNAM) has called for new traffic arrangements at the Motphran area for taxis to tackle the daily traffic snarls at the point. The legislator made the suggestion during an inspection of the area along with traffic officials and officers of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).

''The current taxi stand at the point is causing inconvenience to the public and other vehicles. Hence, I have suggested that there is a need to shift it to the Jaiaw Parking Lot,'' Nongrum told The Sentinel.

He also informed that the traffic department and SMB has agreed to his suggestion; and they will try to arrange the new traffic arrangements from February 21 itself. ''The point of the present taxi stand will also be turned into a 'no-stopping zone','' he said.

The MLA further said that how the new traffic arrangements are made will be left to the wisdom of the Traffic department. ''This shifting will be on a trial basis; and if new arrangement needs to be undertaken, it will be looked into,'' he added.
