SHILLONG: On Saturday, the Congress saw the exodus of its party members at Koinadubi, Dalu, West Garo Hills.
More than 100 people joined the AITC (All India Trinamool Congress) to build a better future for Meghalaya.
In the event, members from Block Congress Committee (BCC), Mahila Congress Committee (MCC) and Youth Congress Committee (YCC) joined AITC in the presence of Dr. Mukul Sangma. Several other leaders such as Richard Mrong Marak, Nehru D Sangma, Rinaldo K Sangma, Miani D Shira, Sanjay Koch, Aggasi Marak, Sarbha Marak, Barthian W Momin, Lazarus M Sangma, Winnerson D Sangma, Zenith Sangma were also present.
Dr Sangma said, "Indian National Congress in Meghalaya has shown desperation to remain in power in Meghalaya."
This comes after a recent development Congress in Meghalaya has decided to work together with the National People's Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), a move which has been welcomed by the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. The AITC leader said that this is a reflection of the fact that the Congress in the state of Meghalaya is in complete disarray and are victim full of confusion.
"That is the reason why I have said that instead of remaining in Indian National Congress if they have the resolve to serve the people and the state, it is time for them to join Trinamool Congress. It is the only platform where they can do justice to the responsibilities vested upon them," Dr Sangma added.
He said that if one goes by the declaration of Congress Legislature Party, associating themselves with NPP & BJP led MDA government it is a complete betrayal.
"It is contrary to what Indian National Congress has always stood for. It is the reflection of their desperation to remain in power," he added. Dr Sangma also said that some of them have attempted to be a part of the government after the election results were announced in March 2018.
