SHILLONG: After the allegations and counter-allegations between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National People’s Party regarding the venue of Narendra Modi’s political rally in Meghalaya, the location has finally been allocated for the same.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will be campaigning for the candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party from the Alotgre Stadium in Tura on February 24. The authorities of the West Garo Hills district has also approved the location for the rally which is expected to see the presence of a huge number of the public including party numbers and supporters.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Meghalaya election committee co-convenor Rupam Goswami mentioned to TOI “The new venue will be Alotgre Stadium in Tura, which is under BCCI.”

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party initially wanted to host the event in the PA Sangma Sports Complex Stadium but it was denied by the Sports Department of the state of Meghalaya. They had cited ongoing construction work as the reason for this denial. But the BJP had blamed the previous chief minister of the state, Conrad K Sangma for the denial of permissions. They had even called it a futile attempt to prevent the BJP wave in the state by denying permission to hold the rally in the stadium.

Denying these allegations Conrad Sangma made a statement. “All permissions come from the side of the Election Commission of India and based on its direction, the district administration takes action. So there is no say from NPP or my side; dragging our (NPP and my) name into it is completely wrong. Even I haven’t gotten permissions for many of my rallies,” he said on Monday.

The polling will take place across more than 3000 polling stations located across 59 constituencies of the state on February 27. Polling for one constituency has been postponed in the state due to the untimely death of one of the candidates.
