SHILLONG: The NEDF (North East Dialogue Forum) has appreciated the move of the MZP (Mizo Zirlai Pawl) for organising 'Candlelight Vigil' all over Mizoram to express solidarity and sympathy for the innocent public of Myanmar. It has urged all to carry forward the MZP move.

Both the organisations have expressed support for the people who are facing the brunt of the junta regime in Myanmar, after the results of November 2020 elections were overturned by Myanmar's military leadership by staging a coup. The junta's action has made democracy a farce and has caused humiliation to the masses, stated the NEDF.

Further, the military has made Myanmar's administrative machinery a pawn in its power game, stated the NEDF, adding that the junta has started manipulating the personnel responsible for maintaining law and order and upholding social peace. The junta is using the country's police to thwart and throttle the democratic non-violent protests against the military takeover of the country. They are compelled to gun down innocent people and non-violent protesters, stated the NEDF, adding that such actions of the junta tantamounts to suppressing, intimidating and denying civil, political, democratic and human rights to the people of Myanmar.

It added, ''Military establishments all over, except in a few countries, are supposed to submit to civilian administration and not the other way round. We earnestly request and urge all Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), students' organisations, and all who believe in and are committed to democratic and non-violent principles to express solidarity with the Myanmarese citizens by taking forward what the MZP has just done. We must stand with them for justice, peace, tranquility and equality,'' stated the release signed jointly by NEDF consultant Dr P.B.M. Basaiawmoit and Member Anthony Debbarma.
