No lockdown extension in Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has decided not to extend the three-day lockdown which ends on Wednesday midnight, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said on Wednesday. "But we will aggressively pursue the random testing," he said during his daily briefing.

Tynsong also said that this decision not to extend the lockdown was taken after taking inputs from district administration and the Health department.

He, however, urged the citizens to be vigilant and stay safe by adhering to the Health protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Tynsong also said that the government was grateful to the COVID-19 management committee of the various localities who worked hard along with the authorities to contain the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, informed that Meghalaya recorded five fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Hek further said that of the five new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded two cases — both from the armed forces; two are from Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in West Garo Hills and one case was detected in Ri-Bhoi.

Besides, 13 more persons have recovered from the infection taking the number of recovered persons to 207. Till date, the State recorded 572 active cases out of which 246 are from the BSF, civilians 291 and armed forces 35.
