Guwahati: Meghalaya government has decided against extending the lockdown in the capital city Shillong. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today confirmed that the State government will not extend the lockdown.
"As notified earlier, #lockdown in Shillong agglomeration will end at 6 AM tomorrow, the 15th of July, 2020," stated Sangma on Facebook, thereby confirming the lifting of the lockdown that was earlier imposed in the city from 6 am on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tyngsong also informed about the government's decision on lifting the lockdown restrictions in the Shillong agglomeration on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned here that there were speculations on the extension of lockdown following the sudden spike in positive cases in the State. Meanwhile, 12 people had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total cases of the State to 319. With 270 active cases reported in the state so far (out of which 186 are BSF personnel), the Meghalaya CM has called for a behavioral change among the masses.
