Nongstoin Market to re-open from June 29

The Syiem of Hima Nongstoin has decided to re-open Nongstoin Market from June 29 on a rotational basis.

SHILLONG: The Syiem of Hima Nongstoin has decided to re-open Nongstoin Market from June 29 on a rotational basis.

The reopening of Nongstoin market will be different from other markets where shops will be allowed to open only in certain areas which include Umlieh, Marskuin, Nonglwai, Nongkhlaw, Byrki, Sangriang, Risiang, Mawkynjoin, Mawliehbah Mawnar, Mawlangniang, Diskiang, Mawrusyiar, Sohpian, Nongspung, and villages under Nongstoin Town Area.

According to the Office of the Syiem of Hima Nongstoin, there will be no big market day or small market day like before but shops will be opened only according to the 'Odd and Even' number system as prepared by Nongstoin Market COVID-19 Management Committee.

The Market COVID-19 Management Committee has announced that opening of shops with odd numbers will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday whereas shops with even numbers will be opened on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The Committee will further provide a water tank for hand washing at the gate before entering the market place. Fines will also be imposed for violation of health protocols like not wearing masks or spitting in open or public places. Smoking of cigarettes, Duma, etc inside the market is strictly prohibited.
