SHILLONG: The Executive Member in-charge Trade of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Paul Lyngdoh has informed that on March 20 a meeting will be held with officers of the department to come up with a new style of functioning of the council when issuing trading license to non-tribals.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Lyngdoh said, “The meeting is being organized to find ways and means on how to clamp down on the issue of trading license to companies coming from outside the State to set up businesses in Meghalaya.”
He also said there is also a need to increase the price of trading license issued by the KHADC to companies coming from outside the State.
“My intension to increase the price of trading license is to ensure that this move will encourage and protect local entrepreneurs and businessmen,” he said. “I’m trying to change the entire system of functioning of the department of Trade in KHADC by enforcing striker laws on companies from outside the State of Meghalaya seeking trading license from the district council,” he said. Lyngdoh said that the KHADC also has an objective to further strengthen the Department of Enforcement at the district council.
