Shillong: The Petroleum Dealers Association, Meghalaya (PDA,M) on Tuesday criticized the oil marketing companies (OMCs) – namely Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited and the district administration for their failure to implement the court order to allow four retail outlets of the State from lifting the petroleum products from Lokhra, Betkhuchi, in Guwahati.
The PDA-M also held the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) of being responsible for holding the dealers under ransom by preventing the dealers of the four fuel stations from the State to lift the petroleum products because they are not complying with their unwanted demands.
Elaborating at the sequence of events that prompted the organization to even moved the Guwahati High Court, president of the PDA,M Kennedy Khyriem said, “the court issued a Notice of Motion in the writ petition as well as on the interim prayer vides its order on 20/9/2019 suspending the unlawful directive of the AMPUto close supplies to the four petrol pumps”,
“However to their amazement, the OMCs, as well as the district administration, failed to implement the court order. This is due to the nonchalant behaviour on the part of the APMU coupled with the non-action on the part of the OMCs which are empowered to intervene at least by taking steps to cancel the gate pass of the drivers refusing to take load that has made the court directive redundant,” stated Khyriem.
Stating that the dealers have also approached the DC Kamrup Metro) and Commissioner of Police for help in compliance of the court orders, the PDA,M president rued that nothing has fructified till date. He also said that the members of the association have had several rounds of meeting with the oil companies and the APMU but nothing was forthcoming. It is on this ground that the PDA,M has decided to call for a “No Purchase No Sale Strike” on November 25.
