SHILLONG: Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pynshngain N Syiem on Wednesday rubbished claims of Deputy Chief Executive Member, Pyniaid Sing Syiem that the former was trying to topple the Executive Committee (EC).
It may be mentioned that both Syiem and Pyniaid are National People’s Party (NPP) Members of District Council (MDCs) in the KHADC.
It may be mentioned that the EC in the KHADC has been formed under the banner of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) comprising of MDCs from, UDP, NPP, HSPDP, PDF and independents. The EC is being led by UDP’s Teinwell Dkhar. When asked about the allegations of Pyniaid that the Chairman is trying to topple the EC led by Teinwell Dkhar to secure the CEM post, Syiem said, “These are just the wild imaginations of the Deputy CEM. I am the Chairman because I wanted to and I am very satisfied as the Chairman of the House.”
The KHADC chairman also clarified that his suggestion, during the on-going budget session to Pyniaid who is the deputy CEM, to come prepared to the House was only to see it function smoothly.
Syiem said, “If members cannot answer to any of the queries what will be the future of the House. I have to be neutral and guided by the AD rules, and regulate the House according to the standard and norms and try not to let the House down.”
According to him, it was a common practice wherein the Speaker or the Chairman can ask the members of the House to do their homework so that they can reply to queries asked in the House.
Meanwhile, Deputy CEM, Pyniaid alleged that the Chairman of the Council was trying to bring down the image of the new EC in the eyes of the public just to show that he is the fittest to occupy the post of the CEM.
Talking to media persons, Syiem said that it was surprising to see the Chairman was trying to undermine the capability of the Executive Member of the new EC including the CEM by advising that they should come prepared to the House.
