Ramakrishna Mission distributes clothes among parents of underprivileged students in East Khasi Hills district

SHILLONG: The Ramakrishna Mission LP/UP and Secondary School at Laitdiengsai in East Khasi Hills district under Mawkynrew constituency, on Saturday, distributed clothes to the parents of underprivileged students studying at the school.

Around 200 parents attended the function held outside the school compound organized by Ramakrishna Mission.

The function was also attended by Banteidor Lyngdoh, Mawkynrew MLA who is also the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs as the Chief Guest.

Ramakrishna Mission has been organizing such functions of distributing clothes to parents of underprivileged children studying at the school every year. This time, around residents from poor families of Thangsning village also availed of the clothes at a different function held on the same day.

Addressing the parents and school students at the function, Banteidor Lyngdoh said, “This act of kindness from Ramakrishna Mission to lend a helping hand to those people who are in need of help is greatly appreciated and this will greatly benefit the beneficiaries.”

He also lauded the school authorities and the Ramakrishna Mission for organizing such functions every year to distribute clothes to the underprivileged families.

“Schools are blessings for people in rural areas as these institutions help in lifting the literacy rate and further the cause of education in villages and also in the entire State,” he said.

Lyngdoh also urged the parents to cooperate and work with the school management committee to further popularize education among the masses.

He also expressed that in the past, people would point out that Mawkynrew Community and Rural Development Block in East Khasi Hills is lagging behind. However, now things have changed as the constituency is developing with the spread of education.
