SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress has asked the State Government to immediately restore Internet services in the State.
SMS of all media service providers and mobile Internet/data services of all mobile services providers have been temporarily suspended since December 12, due to the law-and-order situation arising out of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma termed the shutting down of the internet as an attempt to curtail the democratic rights of the citizens. Condemning the attitude of the State Government, Sangma said this is a complete bankruptcy of idea of governance.
“We had the privilege of running the government for a long time. During 2010-2018, we had serious problems; we were confronted by bigger challenges of militancy, kidnapping and killings. Did we see our government resorting to this kind of panic reaction,” the former Chief Minister said.
