The order also prohibited any form of pig rearing, slaughtering or sale of pig meat in the infected areas till further notices are issued by the competent authorises. Also, all the piggery and farm owners have been ordered to maintain proper hygiene and bio-secured conditions at all times. They also have to restrict the entry of people to the farm premises to prevent any possible contamination or spread of the illness to humans or other animals.

Previously another district of the state had imposed 28-point restrictions and prohibited various activities under section 144 CrPC in Meghalaya’s Eastern West Khasi Hills following an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), officials said here on Tuesday.

The District Magistrate in a notification said that in order to prevent, control and eradicate the ASF and to prevent the spread of the disease outside the district, the prohibition of various activities and restrictions were imposed in a radius of 10 Km from the epicentre of the disease also known as the infected zone.
