Shillong: Schools and colleges in Meghalaya may re-open from the 1st of September, 2021, as informed by the education department of Meghalaya. The decision of reopening of schools has been recommended by the education department to CM Conrad Sangma chaired High-Powered Committee (HPC).
The education minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui, expressed the need to return to classroom teachings at the earliest, with more focus on higher education institutes. "We have decided to recommend reopening of schools and colleges during our meeting today," he said.
"About 50 percent of students eligible to avail Covid-19 vaccination have taken the vaccine. This is expected to increase further by mid-August," the education minister said. "When everything has already started, and even the markets are opening, then why not the schools? This is my personal opinion, but will have to be collectively taken with the Health Department," Rymbui added.
In order to provide a safe environment in educational institutions, Rymbui has urged the general public to be fully vaccinated. "I am very happy that every day about 10,000 people in the state are getting vaccinated," he said. "So, I take this opportunity to urge the parents, and friends all over the state to let us give education to our children by vaccinating ourselves so that our society is more resistant to this coronavirus," he further added.
According to the education minister, all the procedures regarding the opening of schools will be finalized after receiving the approval of HPC. He further added that the education department of the state is looking forward to reopening schools and colleges in urban and rural areas for classes 9 to 12.
