SHILLONG: As lockdown continues in the State and across the country, farmers are the most affected as their produce are finding it difficult to reach the markets and they are facing problems relating to availability of seeds and manure.

In view of this, the president of M20-SSO who is also an MDC of KHADC, distributed seeds and manure to around 100 farmers residing in five villages in Mawlai constituency which includes – Umsaw, Nonngkohlew, Madan ml Mawkhar, Unrynjah and Mawsiatkhnam.

In a small function held on Thursday, Teibor Pathaw MDC said, "The farmers are the ones who are most affected by the lockdown and hence it is important to listen to their needs and issues."

He informed that many have approached him to provide seeds and manure. However, it is difficult to get these items from within our State, hence we had to order the same from outside, he said.

"There is more to be done for the welfare and benefit of farmers in this region and this matter has been discussed in the district council and with the State government," he said.

Pathaw also said that once the coronavirus pandemic comes to an end, he will continue to work for interest of the farmers in the region.
