Senior citizen decries pathetic road condition in Jaintia Hills

SHILLONG: A senior citizen of the State, OR Shallam, Panaliar, Jowai West Jaintia Hills has sent an open complaint letter to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, over the "incompetence and failure" of the Meghalaya State Government.

The letter stated, "We would like to bring to your kind information the following grievances and issues faced by the people of the Jaintia Hills region in the State of Meghalaya regarding the NH-6 connecting Shillong, Meghalaya to Silchar, Assam which has been known to be a lifeline between Jaintia Hills region to the rest of the State of Meghalaya and whereas the present condition of the road is pathetic and left unattended with atleast 80 per cent of the road under potholes."

He said that the road was in a pathetic condition for years due to which people were facing many hardships. He urged the Union Minister to intervene and make necessary and immediate renovation/ repair of the NH-6 or the entire Jaintia hills region would continue to face communication problem with the north-eastern region due to the "failure and incompetence" of the present State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
