SHILLONG: As a result of the Meghalaya government's plans to construct a ropeway project to the summit of Shillong Peak, Shillong is expected to become a popular tourist destination in the North East.
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, stated on Friday that the project is quite far along and that the government has already mobilised finances, completed the design work, and coordinated with the landowners to begin the work. When the ropeway project is finished, guests will be able to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience with breathtaking views over the city and the surrounding countryside.
The CM added that the initiative will revitalise the entire Shillong Peak area, adding major stores that would encourage many people to start small enterprises there.
As the Shillong ropeway project is finished, the government also aims to build ropeways in other regions of the state. The ropeway project is anticipated to transform Shillong's tourism industry and further establish the city as a must-visit location in the North East.
According to a statement from the Indian Railways, the electrification of two crucial routes would allow it to run its first electric trains in the northeastern state of Meghalaya.
By commissioning a 22.823-track-kilometer single-line section of the Dudhnai-Mendipathar and a 34.59-track-kilometer double-line section between Abhayapuri and Pancharatna on March 15, the Northeast Frontier Railway accomplished the milestone.
The Railways stated in a statement that Mendipathar is currently the sole station in the northeastern state of Meghalaya that has been open since the prime minister's inauguration in 2014. Trains pulled by electric locomotives will now be able to run directly from Mendipathar in Meghalaya following the commissioning of electric traction, improving the average speed.
In northeast India, electrification will greatly increase train movement. The region's railroad system will operate more efficiently with the reduction in pollutants brought on by the switch from fossil fuel to electricity.
