SHILLONG: The secretary of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pyniaid Sing Syiem informed that another MDC will extend support to the UDA.

It may be mentioned that last month the Executive Committee of the UDA collapsed after a no confidence motion was tabled during the winter session with 15 MDCs supporting the new alliance United Democratic Forum (UDF), however recently

Congress MDC from Mairang – Nongkhlaw, Batskhem Ryntathiang the UDA has gone up from 14 to 15 members and with the support of Grace Mary Kharpuri the UDA now has 16 members.

“There will be another MDC who will be joining us and this will take our number in the KHADC from 16 MDCs to 17,” Pyniaid told The Sentinel here today.

When asked, about the name of the MDC joining the UDA, he said as of right now they are not going to reveal the name of the MDC however it will be done once a formal welcoming program will be held soon.

Meanwhile, UDP MDC Titos Chyne said, “People are suffering now because the council at present has failed to function and carry out it’s normal service to the public as there is only a Chief Executive Member (CEM) without an executive committee.”

He said that if Latiplang Kharkongor is the legal CEM at KHADC he should carry out his duty and not make the people suffer.

“How can the CEM function alone without any members in the Executive Committee (EC) and all the works are stalled as there are files which needs to be signed by the EMs of different departments,” he said.

Chyne further said that if Latiplang lang is concerned about the problems encountered by the people then he should resign.
