SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government, on Monday, reiterated that the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) should stop its "illegal activities" before the government can invite them for peace talks. "We keep telling them if you want to come across the table, please stop illegal activities," said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong. It may be mentioned that the Khasi militant outfit has claimed responsibility for planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Soo-kilo under Sutnga Elaka in East Jaintia Hills district of the State on November 26.

Meanwhile, in the recent past, the proscribed HNLC had expressed their willingness to come to the negotiating table. The Deputy Chief Minister informed that the State government has taken up the talks offer from the HNLC with the Central government. "Let the Centre decide on this issue at the earliest," he added.
