The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) demanded a local qualified professor to be appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Meanwhile, the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has written to the Ministry of Education while stressing on the need to appoint the VC with the specified prerequisites, while the Meghalaya Confederation of Academic Welfare (MeCAW) has sought the expedition of the process of appointment of new VC.
In a press release, the MeCAW expressed its deep concern at vicious attempts by certain vested interests to continue with the pathetic and reprehensible regime of Prof. S.K.Srivastava in a new guise.
The release further stated that the illegal, irregular and immoral acts of violation of all academic and administrative norms of the University by Prof. S.K.Srivastava has been carried out in collusion with two accomplices, namely Prof. Henry Lamin and Prof. G.Singhaiah, the two Pro-VCs of Shillong and Tura campuses respectively.
"We bring this play by Prof. S.K. Srivastava and his accomplices in the corridors of power in Delhi to highlight the urgent need of correction of all-out failure, misdeed and cover-up of corruption that the present cabal at NEHU is trying all out. Already the staff association of the University has brought out in the public domain the internal malfunctioning of the very office of Prof. S.K.Srivastava along with a litany of failure, misdeed and ill-effects on the students, staff and teachers, which is just the 'tip of the iceberg'. The larger malaise lay in violation of every bit of University's Act, Statute, Ordinance, Rules and regulations by Prof. S.K.Srivastava, seeing which Prof. HenryLamin as the Pro-VC of Shillong and Prof. G. Singhaia as the Pro-VC of Tura got the courage to carry out irregular acts in critical academic, administrative and financial matters." the release stated.
It is to be mentioned that earlier, the President of India, who is also the Visitor of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has permitted the incumbent Vice-Chancellor (VC) of NEHU, Prof. SK Srivastava to continue in the office after the expiry of his term on September 23, 2020, stated a release from the varsity.
The release stated, "As per the communication received from the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education dated 22nd September 2020, Prof. Srivastava will continue to hold office for such period not exceeding a total period of one year or till his successor is appointed, whichever is earlier.
Prof. Srivastava assumed the office of VC, NEHU on September 24, 2015, for a period of five years which was completed on September 23, 2020.
