Tura: The Hundred Drums Festival, Wangala, one of the major festivals of Meghalaya, particularly of the Garo tribe, would be celebrated on November 13-14. The celebrations would be much more toned down because of the COVID situation.

Wangala is a harvest festival celebrated by people of the Garo tribe of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Assam.

The festival is celebrated to express gratitude to the Sun God- Misi Saljong. It has been held for over 40 years in Asanang village of Meghalaya. People from neighbouring areas also join the festival every year.

This year the festival will move to a tourist spot about 5 kilometres away in Chibragre .

F.K. Marak, a member of the organising committee said, "This year will be just to ensure traditions are respected and continued, and the numbers will be reduced to ensure protocols for the pandemic can be maintained."

The organising committee would ensure that hand sanitisers are available at the venue as well at the entry points. The Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly is likely to be the chief guest for the festival.
