Man Commits Suicide After Killing Wife, 6-Month-Old Baby Rescued in Meghalaya

The victims were identified as Rosemary Lyngkhoi and her husband Bose Kharbani, who lived in a rented house in Mawiaban near Siejlieh village.

SHILLONG: A man identified as Bose Kharbani (25) has reportedly committed suicide after killing his wife Rosemary Lyngkhoi (26). They lived in a rented house in Mawiaban near Siejlieh village under West Khasi Hills. The incident happened on Tuesday after villagers informed village authorities who later alerted the police. 

According to reports, police found the man hanging at the ceiling of the house with the body of his wife dead on the bed in the same room. 

The six-month-old baby was lying on the bedside and was immoderately rushed to a local hospital in Nongstoin. 

Villagers alerted local authorities after they heard the baby crying continuously in the morning. 

After the incident came to light a crime scene unit was dispatched from Shillong. The police have suspected that a husband killed his wife using a knife that was found in the room. 

A case has been registered under Nongstoin Police station and the investigation is underway. It was informed that a forensic report is also awaited by the police. 

There has been many incidents of murder and suicide in the past in Meghalaya.

In June hundreds of residents from 4th Mile in Upper Shillong today took out a solidarity march protesting against the alleged rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman by one Vicky Syiemlieh. The brutality is throwback to the Delhi's Nirbhaya case, which shocked the country and led to radical changes in laws to end crimes against women.

Similarly in 2018 people in Shillong came out to protest against the killing of NCP candidate Jothone N Sangma, and three others in Williamgar's East Garo Hills district. The 'Candlelight Vigil' at Police Bazar organized by the A'chik (Garo) Youths of Shillong. Hundreds of people particularly from all walks of life participated in the Candlelight Vigil. Posters like, "Acts of terror are acts of cowards", "society will not tolerate such acts where people are put in fear", "Meghalaya wants peace and shall see peace" and "is life and death at the mercy of the polluticians?", were put up at the venue.
