Umden declared as the 'Eri Silk Centre' in Meghalaya

Umden has been declared as the ‘Eri Silk Centre’ of the State at a meeting in the village on Friday evening.

SHILLONG: Umden has been declared as the 'Eri Silk Centre' of the State at a meeting in the village on Friday evening.

Local MLA Marylborn Syiem (Congress) spoke highly about the Minister of Weaving and Sericulture Bantedor Lyngdoh. The Minister also reciprocated the former's gesture by saying,"I am here not to play politics but to give a helping hand to the people in order to become self reliant. "This village is part of the Aspirational District programme of the State; and its endeavour to sustain the eri silk production is part of the government's vision to help them sustain and promote their efforts in this direction," stated Lyngdoh.

The local MLA acknowledged his gesture by declaring the place as a adopted village under the Ministry of Textiles. Speaking to the this correspondent, both the policy makers categorically stated that they may have political differences but they are in league when it is concerns welfare of the people. "We are here together to declare Umden as the main centre to rejuvenate production of the eri silk," stated Lyngdoh.
