SHILLONG: The central body of Khasi Student Union (KSU) has stated that no action will be taken against Ferdynald Kharkamni, president of the Ri Bhoi unit of KSU.
According to reports allegedly at around 2 am on October 15, Kharkamni along with a group of 25 to 30 boys, barged into Umiam Police Station and assaulted a sub-inspector and a head constable.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Donald Thabah general secretary of the KSU central body said, “We will not take any action against Kharkamni as whatever has been reported has come from the police.” He informed that the Union will also hold discussion with its counterpart — the KSU North Khasi Hills — to find out what exactly had happened on the day of the incident.
It may be mentioned that head constable B Bordoloi, who was also allegedly assaulted, registered an FIR in Umiam Police Station; and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits for assaulting police personnel in uniform. “We will have to find out from KSU North Khasi Hills also, because right now its only a one sided story,” he said. After the incident KSU leader Kharkamni is on the run.
Meanwhile, Ri-Bhoi SP C Syrti said that the police are tracking him and will not spare him if he does not surrender. On October 24 also, the police had issued a ‘look out notice’ for Kharkamni. A case has been registered under several sections, including Section 506 of the IPC, that is punishment for criminal intimidation.
