Rumblings in KHADC

SHILLONG: The ruling alliance in the KHADC, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has lost the majority after eight of its members broke away from the coalition.
In the latest development on Wednesday, two more members of the ruling alliance in the district council – Alvin K Sawkmie and PN Syiem – aligned themselves with the Opposition Congress.
“Although Alvin K Sawkmie has officially sent his resignation letter, PN Syiem has not done so even though he has verbally communicated that he is now with us,” a source in the Congress camp said.
It may be mentioned that initially on Tuesday, six of the members of the UDA – three from the National People’s Party (NPP), two independents and one People’s Democratic Front (PDF) member resigned from the coalition.
These are – three Executive Members – Mitchell Wankhar and Victor Ranee of the NPP and Macdalyn Mawlong (PDF). The other three are Latiplang Kharkongor and Lambor Malgniang – who are chairpersons of the advisory committee and Gigur Myrthong of the NPP.
The UDA which mainly consists of United Democratic Party (UDP) members of District Council and a few from NPP now has been reduced to 11 members.
