GUWAHATI: In an attempt to encourage students into higher studies and research sectors, USTM went ahead with the refund of fees of all its students who qualified in several examinations aimed towards the same.
The University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya has organised an event on December 15 to execute its unique policy named the payback policy. Under this scheme, all students of the institution who cleared the National Eligibility Test, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and State Level Eligibility Test will receive a full refund of their entire fees. This includes the admission fees as well as the semester fees from the first to the last semester of the course they are enrolled in.
A total sum of Rs 1.2 Cr was reimbursed under this policy to 120 students who qualified in these examinations. Located in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya on the edge of Guwahati city, USTM has grown into one of the most popular destinations for students from across the Northeast Indian states.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor of the institution mentioned the reason for this policy is to increase competitive spirit and motivation among its students. This will help the students from Northeast India to reach greater heights in different fields of study. He also mentioned that brilliant students with interests should not be deprived of studies because of their financial conditions.
The event saw the presence of Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain, the Vice Chancellor of Tripura University and Professor V K Ahuja, the Vice Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Guwahati. Both of them congratulated the students on cracking their examinations and called this step to be very beneficial towards academia as a whole. Apart from the administration and faculty of USTM, students and their parents were also part of this event.
