TURA: The West Garo Hills district observed the National Statistics Day, 2022 with the theme, 'Data for Sustainable Development' in a programme organized by the office of the District Statistical Officer at SMELC Building, Tura, thereby commemorating the birth anniversary of the Father of Indian Statistics, PC Mahalanobis on June 29.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe spoke at length on data-driven government, data and statistics and sustainable development goals based on which the decisions are taken by the Government. He also informed that the Government of Meghalaya is going to release funds this year so that the districts can achieve the sustainable goals.

Wellstar Marak, Agriculture Development Officer, while speaking on the importance of statistics, highlighted before the gathering about how the data and statistics helped the policy makers, economists etc., to take decisions.

During the programme, trophies and certificates also were distributed to the winners of debate and quiz competitions held earlier where the schools like Sherwood, Capt William's School, Kendriya Vidiyalaya and others participated.

The District Statistical Officer, JC Momin, delivered welcome and introductory speech while Inspector of Statistics, AR Marak proposed the vote of thanks.
