SHILLONG: With 25 new cases on Wednesday, Meghalaya's tally of active cases reached 433 even as there were eight recoveries during the day. The total recoveries across the State till date are 78, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr.
Of the 25 new cases, 19 are from East Khasi Hills (Armed Forces: 2; BSF: 6; and civilians: 11). And of the 19 cases in East Khasi Hills, while two are from the Assam Rifles, six are from the BSF. Among the 11 civilian cases, four are returnees from Assam; one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and West Bengal; and three are from North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) — of which two are staff nurses in the orthopedic ward and one supplies diet in the same ward.
Insofar as the district-wise breakup of the total COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills has registered 366 (BSF: 269; Armed Forces: 14; and civilians: 83); Ri-Bhoi has 42; West Garo Hills: 12; South Garo Hills: 2; and one each from South West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills;
While the samples sent for testing till Wednesday are 29,742, test samples tested negative are 28,967, and results of 260 samples are being awaited.
The total number of stranded residents who entered the State till Wednesday afternoon are 23,309.
Dr. Warr also informed that out of the 25 fresh cases detected on Wednesday, two from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills, include a police personnel and a shopkeeper; while from Amlarem in East Jaintia Hills, all the three detected cases are of shopkeepers.
The Health department may conduct random sampling along the vulnerable areas of the border with Bangladesh in these two districts. The district administrations of East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills are on the process of declaring containment zones in certain areas of these two district.
The Director of Health Services further informed that these cases were detected after random tests were done in the two areas.
