Around 140 Wild animals and birds rescued in Mizoram

The exotic animals and birds along with the vehicles were handed over to the Superintendent of Custom Preventive Force, Champhai.

SILCHAR: Acting jointly with Champhai Excise & Narcotics Department, the Mizoram Police on Saturday morning seized and rescued 140 exotic animals and birds, suspected to be smuggled from Myanmar. Three vehicles were being used for smuggling.

Sources said that 30 tortoises, two monkeys, two Marmoset monkeys, 22 pythons, 18 Sumatran Water Monitors, 55 crocodiles (hatchlings), four flame power birds, four serval cats, two marmosets and one Albino wallaby were rescued. Recently, the Cachar police recovered two rare species of chimpanzees from an abandoned truck on the Mizoram border.

These exotic animals and birds along with the vehicles were handed over to the Superintendent of Custom Preventive Force, Champhai.
