AIZAWL: As a mark, their solidarity against child labour and to support the noble cause of World Day Against Child Labour, the Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sector Assam Rifles/Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) organised an online audio-visual awareness drive against child labour at all COBs/POB.

The awareness drive against child labour aimed to create awareness in the local populace regarding the harmful effect of child labour on the psychology of children and also the nation. The awareness drive was conducted by all COBs/POB and covered the remote areas of the Battalion AOR such as Mimbung Ngopa, New Vaikhawtlang, Kawlbem and Hnahlan. This detailed and comprehensively informative audio-visual awareness programme on the negative impact of child labour was meant to educate the general public on the issue and motivate them to refrain from being a part of it in any form.

According to International Labour Organisation's (ILO) data, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education, health, leisure and basic freedoms, violating this way their rights. Of these children, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour.
