Assam Rifles conducts lectures on HIV/AIDS at T-Dumzau village

The Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted a lecture on "HIV/AIDS: Causes and Prevention"

AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted a lecture on "HIV/AIDS: Causes and Prevention" at T-Dumzau village of the Lawngtlai District on May 13, 2022. Twenty local people attended the lecture.

The aim of the lecture was to generate awareness about HIV/AIDS in the local populace. The lecture covered that 'HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. There is currently no effective cure. Once an individual gets infected their immune system starts weakening.'

During the lecture, people were made aware of various methods for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and also advised to use condoms every time having sex. The local people discussed various taboos and stigma attached to the disease, and were educated about a healthy living with the disease. The locals of T-Dumzau village were happy. They expressed their gratitude for the initiative taken by Assam Rifles, a press release said.
