Assam Rifles creates awareness against child labour at Government School

AIZAWL: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted an awareness lecture on child labour at the Government School, Khawbung on Wednesday.

The aim of the lecture was to enlighten the children about provisions against employment of children in any work that deprives them of their childhood and interferes with their ability to attend regular school. It was also explained that "all work done by children under the age of 15 and dangerous work done by children under the age of 18 are illegal and punishable offences".

The occasion was also utilized to educate the children on the ills of drug abuse and tobacco consumption.

Meanwhile, according to another press release the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted an 'Anti-Drug Awareness Rally' under the 'Ruihhlo-do: Anti-drug awareness campaign' at the Ngopa village on Wednesday.

A total 197 civilians, including students and elders, attended the rally.

The aim of the rally was to prevent youth from using illicit drugs by enhancing their awareness and understanding of the harmful social and health effects of illicit drug use and to develop and implement community-based interventions and initiatives to prevent illicit drug use.

Special emphasis was laid on the importance of awareness against drug abuse and the negative effect on society. The local residents were advised not to indulge in such illegal activities which can impair their future.
