SAIHA: The economic and social disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is devastating the lives of many people in Mizoram who are at risk of falling into extreme poverty. During such tough times, the Assam Rifles has come forward to extend a helping hand.
The COB (Company Operating Base) Saiha of Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) distributed various essential items including masks and sanitizers in Meisatlah and New Saiha villages within Saiha District.
On Saturday (July 3), the Battalion distributed essential food and other items to the families in the villages of Meisatlah and New Saiha who belong to an economically weaker group. These families had almost consumed their ration stockings and had no option to arrange food or ration for themselves amidst the lockdown during the time of this pandemic.
The MSO (Mara Students Organisation) was actively involved and assisted the Battalion during this distribution.
Transforming the lives of impoverished people has been one of the prime focuses of the Assam Rifles and such initiatives are set to bring a new dawn in the local community and keep the force committed with their adage of "Friends of Hill people", stated a release.
