Assam Rifles holds civic programmes across Mizoram villages

The Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles/ Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) has held a series of civic programmes across Mizoram.

AIZAWL: The Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles/ Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) has held a series of civic programmes across Mizoram.

LECTURE ON RICH INDIAN HERITAGE & CULTURE: To familiarise people on the 'Rich Culture & Indian Heritage of Our Country', the Aizawl Battalion , conducted a lecture at the Government Mimbung Higher Secondary School recently.

The aim of the lecture-cum-interaction programme with the students and young generation was to enlighten them with the rich Indian cultural and heritage including the Northeast which is a magnificent tapestry of people, events and nature.

The interaction also addressed the importance of architectural creations, monuments, material artifacts, scientific inventions and discoveries which are also part of Indian heritage. Altogether 59 children with five teaching staff attended the programme. The efforts of Assam rifles was well received and adequately appreciated by the local populace.

LECTURE ON ANTI-DRUG AWARENESS: The Lunglei Battalion organized a motivational lecture-cum-awareness programme on anti-drug campaign at the premises of the 'New Light School' and Government Higher Secondary School recently.

A total of 70 students and 12 teachers attended the same. During the lecture, they were explained about harmful of effects of drugs and their counter measures. Further, contact numbers and the details of various drug-rehabilitation centres were also provided.

COVID-AWARENESS DRIVES: In view of the outbreak of new strain of COVID-19 virus, the Serchhip Battalion conducted a 'COVID-19 Awareness Drives' at the villages of Khawbung Mimbung, Ngopa, New Vaikhawtlang, Kawlbem and Hnahlan recently. The event was led by Medical Officer of the Unit and he used opportunity to sensitize the locals about the new strain of COVID-19 virus. The importance of maintaining of social distancing, prevention of spread of virus among the people and use of masks was reasserted. The Serchhip Battalion has pledged to work relentlessly for the local populace and leave no stone unturned for the betterment of the society. The drive also created awareness among the local population about the prevailing COVID-19 situation and the vaccination drive which has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16.

MEDICAL CAMP AT SERCHHIP: To achieve the motto of "Winning Hearts and Minds" of the local populace of Serchhip District, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted a medical camp for Serchhip Town and surrounding areas recently. The Regimental Medical officer of Serchhip Battalion along with the medical staff provided treatment to 25 local people which included 12 male and 13 female of Serchhip town and the surrounding areas. Apart from providing necessary medical assistance, basic knowledge on health education, hygiene and sanitation were also imparted.

An interactive session was also organized where the locals were acquainted about common outbreak of disease during the change of season.

The villagers extended their gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for organising such a medical camp and expressed their eagerness to work together with the Assam Rifles for the uplift of the areas.

FRIENDLY VOLLEYBALL MATCH AT PARVA: The Lunglei Battalion organized a friendly volleyball match at Lunglei Battalion on March 29. The match was held with an aim to develop and boost sportsmanship and hunt talented sportsperson amongst the local youths.

A total of 20 youths of Parva Village village participated in the match. The teams played valiantly and displayed exemplary standards of sportsmanship and team work and the match ended on a healthy note, stated press releases.
